Accidental Leadership: Out Of This World Advice From Phantom Space CEO, Jim Cantrell

It’s a strange question that has captured my curiosity since childhood. What’s the question? “If you could choose just one superpower, what would it be?”

Consider how you would answer that question for yourself. Could you fly, be invisible, have super-human strength, shoot laser beams out of your fingertips, or run at Mach speed? You could choose something more cerebral, like moving objects with your mind. It’s all your choice. What would your super-power be?

A few weeks ago, I was conversing with a friend who answered that question by saying, “I’d like to be able to see around corners.” He said, “…that way I could always anticipate what will happen next.”

At first, I considered his response a bit naive. I asked my friend, “You get to choose any super power at all, and that’s what you’d pick—seeing around corners?”
